Stephen Fleming is perhaps best described as New Zealand’s talismanic captain, as without him, the Black Caps struggled, while with him, they exceed expectations.
However, over and above his captaincy skills, which he is no longer called on for at international level, Fleming is also a world-class batsman and aside from being the Black Caps most successful ever captain he is also one of New Zealand’s most successful batsman. Fleming enjoyed a good World Cup, in 2003, with the bat, cracking 321 runs, including a career high 134 not out, to take the Kiwis to victory against hosts South Africa.
Fleming, who was born in Christchurch on 1 April 1973, has represented Canterbury, Wellington and Middlesex as well as New Zealand.
