James Hopes is an Australian all-rounder who plays his domestic cricket for Queensland. He made his one-day international debut against New Zealand, taking 1-38 without being required to bat. This was back in March 2005, and since taking 1-8 against Bangladesh in April 2006 he had to wait a while for another chance.
Time away from the international scene served him well, returning to play India and New Zealand in the 2007/8 season. Used extensively as a fourth or fifth bowler, he bowled economically while the strength of Australia's batting meant he seldom got a long stay at the innings, but showed his big-hitting class with some quick cameos at the death.
