Ryan Sidebottom is a left-arm swing bowler who hails from Yorkshire but currently plays his county cricket with Nottinghamshire, and the move to the Midlands county paid dividends as in 2007, he was picked again for England having represented them once before back in 2001.
Afforded a second chance due to injuries for others, he wasted no opportunity to impress, with his left-arm action providing England's attack with variety and, more importantly, wickets. He took 16 wickets against the West Indies but just five against India, although he was unlucky to see a number of catches go down off his own bowling.
Introduced into the one-day side, he proved just as effective, playing a crucial role in England's landmark one-day series victory in Sri Lanka, where he took 12 wickets at an average of just 13.83.
Whilst by no means qualifying as an all-rounder, his batting is competent enough to see him bat at number eight for England, and he has shown his worth by sticking around with senior batsmen on occasion, as he did in Kandy, where his top score to date of 31 helped England into a first innings lead.
