Michael Vaughan

England

The injury plagued Michael Vaughan became the latest England captain in the summer of 2003. Vaughan took charge of the England one-day team, in the NatWest Challenge against Pakistan and in the NatWest series against South Africa and Zimbabwe, winning both competitions. Shortly after these successes Vaughan was elevated to the Test captaincy following Nasser Hussain’s decision to stand down.

As a captain, he led England to Ashes glory in 2005. Born on October 29 1974, Michael Vaughan has a Test average around the mid-40s although his one-day figure remained below thirty and after the World Cup in 2007, he resigned as captain and has not played since. He did, however, make a successful return to the Test side with a century on his first game back against the West Indies.

He has scored over 5000 Test and 1700 ODI runs.
